Get your accounts in order and make better strategic decisions for your business

“As our client, you never have to lift a finger!” is a promise you are unlikely to hear from us. A good accounting partner cannot simply take care of everything on your behalf. We work alongside you, not just as a supplier, and build a constructive, ongoing dialogue with clear responsibilities on both sides.

Talk to us about your business

That is how we approach financial advice: we help you use your accounts to make business decisions. With reliable information, you can steer the business in the right direction. We act as a partner in working towards the growth goals that matter to you.

The right approach depends on how you manage your business, what you want to achieve, your business model and what we have learned works well for other clients.

Here are some examples of the areas we often look at and how they can help.

Chart of accounts

One of the first things we review is how your chart of accounts is structured.

We check that fixed and variable costs are classified in a useful way, including variable selling costs such as Google Ads and other pay-per-click marketing. This can help you see how much contribution margin you need to cover fixed costs and how much additional profit each extra sale may generate.

We may also recommend breaking down fixed or variable costs further. You might want to distinguish between software used for administration and customer management, or separate payroll for management from payroll for production. This can help you understand the business, identify where value is created and see where there may be room to save.

Departments

As your company grows, it can be useful to review performance by department to understand where costs sit and where value is created.

For example, if you have offices in both Zealand and Jutland, you may want to compare their performance. Or you may want to separate management and administration from sales and marketing to see whether those teams generate more value than they cost.

Seasons and product collections

If your business is seasonal—for example, if sales are higher in summer than in winter—or if you sell products in several collections each year, it may make sense to report on each period separately.

This can show how much you need to earn in the high season to cover costs in the low season. You may also want to compare the profitability of your collections: perhaps some deserve more investment, while others should be discontinued.

Development costs

You may want a clear view of your development costs for several reasons. You might want to assess which costs meet the recognition criteria and can therefore be recorded as an asset on the balance sheet. This affects how the accounts are presented and may matter to investors. You may also want a separate assessment of whether qualifying research and development expenditure could support a tax-credit claim. The accounting and tax conditions differ.

Whatever your reason, we can structure your accounts so you and other stakeholders can see the scale of your development costs clearly.

Expansion and return on investment

Do you want to understand the cost of expanding and when you might earn that investment back?

If you are raising funding, it can help to show investors what it will cost to open a new location or develop a new product, and when and how much you expect the investment to return.

Is there anything else we can help with?

You may also want to:

  • get better at spotting warning signs and significant variances
  • track selected costs or cost groups more closely
  • make financial analysis easier through a more informative breakdown of your data
  • turn your accounts into information you can use to manage the business
  • communicate your figures more clearly to senior leaders and external advisers, so you can get the advice you need

To get the full benefit from financial management and a well-structured chart of accounts, expenses need to be recorded correctly and the underlying data needs to be complete.

We therefore recommend automating document handling and payments and integrating them properly with your accounting system. This can reduce errors and save time. Read more about Automation and integration.

We can also handle day-to-day bookkeeping, including payroll bookkeeping and payroll processing, so you can focus on growing your business. Read more about Bookkeeping and payroll.

We can review your accounts and report to you in time for you to use the information in your work. You may also want help monitoring cash flow. Read more about Controlling and reporting.
